Director or Associate Director of College Counseling

Position Title: Director of College Counseling or Associate Director of College Counseling

Reports To: School of Rhetoric Head

Summary

Regents School of Austin seeks an experienced educator to join its College Counseling Office in the summer of 2019. This person will work as a team with the Associate Director of College Counseling and an administrative assistant. Depending on the level of experience, the position to be filled will be either Director of College Counseling or Associate Director of College Counseling.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Working with 35-40 students and families in each class on all aspects of the college search, application and admission process
  • Engaging with students individually and in a classroom setting
  • Conducting evening  informational sessions on the college process for students and parents
  • Writing comprehensive college recommendation letters
  • Traveling to college campuses and professional conferences
  • Establishing and maintaining relationships with college admission officers
  • Advising students
  • Conducting small group sessions for students on the college admissions process (applications, essays, resumes, etc.) and the YouScience aptitude assessment

Experience and Skills:

Qualifications: College guidance and/or college admissions experience of at least three to five years and proven expertise specifically in college counseling and/or selective college admissions. Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree preferred.

  • Strong interpersonal, communication, writing, public speaking and organizational skills
  • In-depth knowledge of universities and colleges, admission policies, application procedures and timelines, and college admissions/standardized testing
  • Familiarity with the goals and mission of a classical, Christian school
  • Experience developing relationships with students and families
  • The ability to work effectively with students of varying abilities, handle concerns of parents, collaborate with teachers and interact with college admissions officers
  • Patience, flexibility, creativity and a sense of humor are important!
