Job Description:

Regents School of Austin is seeking a Human Resources Director for the 2025-2026 school year.  Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer and using a collaborative approach with administrators of divisions and departments school-wide, the director provides analysis, design, development and implementation of human resource systems, which includes long range planning, policy and procedure development, programs covering employment, compensation, benefits, performance management, employee relations, recruiting and retention, managerial training, and compliance with all applicable federal, state and local laws. The director develops organizational strategy and objectives relating to the School’s Human Resource functions.

This position is responsible for providing strategic direction to compensation and benefits programs, including group health, life insurance and disability plans, retirement plans, unemployment benefits, and workers’ compensation ensuring compliance with all local, state and federal regulations.

Primary responsibilities will focus on continuing Regents' tradition of attracting and securing highly qualified and missionally-aligned teachers and administrators. The Director will support the efforts of the Head of School and the senior staff as they build their division teams. Regents seeks to attract excellent educators and support staff, develop our employees, and promote low employee attrition.

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Stay abreast of policy developments, national, state and local labor law, and best practices in independent schools; recommend new and updated HR policies, maintain and update Employee Handbook on an annual basis in collaboration with legal counsel if necessary, which is submitted by the Head of School for Board approval.

  • Support hiring managers in recruitment, develop and revise job descriptions, job posting documents, post job openings in appropriate venues, maintain updated digital application, keep processes up to date, exhibit at career fairs, develop and maintain a pipeline of candidates.    

  • Analyze local, regional, and national salary and benefit surveys and data on a position basis and in total; develops and recommends strategies for complying with the School’s compensation philosophy to be reviewed by the Board. 

  • Collaborates on the design of and administers the School’s performance management program; trains staff in coaching and feedback techniques and in conducting formal performance appraisals.  Advises managers on hiring, disciplinary and termination procedures.

  • Oversee all aspects of hiring of employees, which include background checks, and all functions with onboarding. 

  • Partner with the Director of Payroll and Benefits Administration to ensure all employees are compensated according to employment agreements and any other compensation arrangements.

  • Manage all Human Resources Systems and processes used in recruiting and onboarding employees including: Human Resources Information System (HRIS), Application Tracking System (ATS), and all other HR systems and software applications. 

  • Prepare and coordinate annual distribution of employment agreements for returning faculty, informed by salary adjustments as determined by the Division Heads.  Coordinate distribution of offer letters for new employees as well as salary increase and total compensation letters for existing employees.

  • Ensure safety and security of students and other employees as it pertains to prospective employees and volunteers in employment positions. This includes background checks and/or social media checks if necessary. 

  • Partner with Chief Financial Officer and Director of Payroll and Benefits Administration on benefit programs administration starting with the introduction of benefit plans during open enrollment, new hire enrollment and conduct employee change actions and documentation to enter participant enrollment and changes. Communicate and/or conduct meetings concerning benefit terms and policy changes.

  • Work with employees, managers and Senior Staff to promptly resolve and prevent any employee problems which arise out of work situations. Positively maintain the employer-employee relationship which helps contribute to productivity, motivation, and morale.

 

Experience and Skills:

 

  1. Bachelor's Degree required, Masters preferred

  2. HR Certification preferred

  3. A minimum of  five years of Human resources experience, HR in educational setting preferred

  4. Outstanding ability to communicate verbally and in writing

  5. Commitment to staff development
